Cleveland Park Smart Growth Endorses Connor O’Brien for ANC 3C08

Cleveland Park Smart Growth is proud to endorse Connor O’Brien for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in 3C08. Connor shares our vision of a community that welcomes more neighbors and treats every street user as a priority.

On housing, Connor seeks an all-of-the-above strategy to both increase the supply of housing and provide supportive access to housing for those struggling to afford it. As he put it in response to Greater Greater Washington’s candidate questionnaire, “I think that in an ideal DC, people of all socio-economic positions should be able to find a home for no more than 30% of their household income, and still have it be at a ‘market rate.’ Unfortunately, the reality of this is not the case, which is why I support means tested affordable housing and subsidies to ensure that we can make it so.”

He supports an updated Comprehensive Plan that would re-legalize in every part of every neighborhood the types of small scale multi-family homes, up to six-plexes, that made historic Cleveland Park such a desirable in-town place to call home for the past 100 years, and says he’d introduce a resolution backing that. He also backs raising height limits along Connecticut Avenue and rezoning to give the district more housing options.

On transportation, Connor names pedestrian safety as the biggest issue in his neighborhood—citing the daily conflict between walkers, bikes, scooters, and fast-moving car traffic on roads like Reno Road. His fix: dedicated and protected bike lanes so riders aren’t forced onto sidewalks, plus commonsense traffic-calming measures—four-way stops, speed humps, redirected traffic—to slow cars down. He supports removing parking and travel lanes for dedicated bus lanes and protected bike lanes, backs downtown congestion pricing, and commits to participating in the National Week Without Driving.

Connor backs up his words with action: he’s raised money for affordable housing by biking across the country twice, and he bikes DC’s streets every week.

Cleveland Park Smart Growth urges voters in 3C08 to support and elect Connor O’Brien—a commissioner who will fight for more housing and safer streets for everyone.
